Vacation=Flop....Staycation=Bliss

So 2 Wednesdays ago, we packed up the car and headed to the beach for our week vacation. We were so excited to get out of town and had high hopes of a nice, relaxing retreat away. Sutton is such a good baby and even though BG is busy as a tornado, we thought that she could run all day long on the beach and crash at night. Well, that was what we hoped but not what became reality. Turns out, one of BG's 2 year molars was coming in and it rocked her world. She not only skipped her naps but she was a terror to put down, got up and down throughout the night and we all ended up playing musical beds in attempt to calm her and not disturb Sutton. Not to mention the yucky weather, rainy and cold don't go over so well at the beach :) So, long story short, we were all EXHAUSTED and ended up coming home on Sunday and spent the rest of our vacation at home, "Staycation" and it was awesome! Mac had taken off work through Wednesday, so we had 3 glorious days of family workouts at the Y, lunch outings, a couple trips to TCBY and a much needed date night. I hated to leave the beach (I actually cried as we pulled out of the driveway) but it just wasn't our year for a great vacation....next year will be MUCH better, it couldn't get any worse :)

You feel so terrible when you know that your child is not feeling good...this expression says it all. Bathing suit on, ready for the beach but just not her spunky little self :(

We did get out one afternoon but as you can tell from the sweater, it was chilly and she didn't understand why we couldn't get in the water. "Because it's cold" did not seem to satisfy her desire and of course a meltdown was to follow.

This little homebody told us about every hour that she wanted to go home while we were at the beach, we finally took the hint and loaded up the car. Her little smirk in this pic says that she is a happy girl to finally be headed that way!

Oh well, we tried and we will try again next year. As Mac said, we probably have a lifetime of vacations and experiences that don't turn out the way we plan. I have to look at the bright side and laugh, knowing that it's trips like these that add color to our life. No matter how bad the ride, I have an amazing husband and 2 of the cutest little girls in the world....I can't complain :)

xoxo
